Ch.16- They continue up the river. Jim keeps talking about Cairo because hes gonna finally be free. Huck then feels guilty for helping Jim escape. Huck decides he is going to turn Jim in but when two men come along looking for a runaway slave he doesn't tell them. they try to go check but Huck tells them he has the smallpox, they leave and give Huck 20$. Jim was hiding underwater and heard everything he says and thanks him. They continue to look for Cairo but they think they may have passed it in the fog. They decide they made it to Cairo and at night they are going to take the canoe up stream but when they come back the canoe is gone. They get on the raft and start traveling Intel they sees a steam boat coming up the river so they light a lantern but the steamboat hits the raft, everything goes overboard , he looks for jim but cant find him. he then goes on the bank but gets stopped by dogs.
Ch.17- Some one from the cabin hear the dogs barking and ask who is it. Huck tells them his name is George Jackson and he fell off the steam boat, he is not a Shepherdson. They tell Huck to come in the house while holding the guns at him. They let Huck stay and live with them and there son Buck. Huck makes up a story about himself and how he got there and they talk. Huck likes everything in the house and reads some poetry.
Ch.18- Huck starts to describe the Grangorfords. He also starts to describe Miss Sophia in detail. He also starts to describe the Shepherdson who live next to the Grangorfords. Huck and Buck see one of the Sheperedson and try to shoot him but misses him as they run back home. Buck explains they feud between the two families. Both families are trying to kill one another over a legal land dispute from over 30 years ago. Miss Sophia asked Huck to sneak in the church and get her a 'Bookmark'. After Huck gets the" bookmark" Sophia tells him its just a "Bookmark" and nothing else. Bucks slaves takes Huck down to the river to show him some water "moccasins" but actually shows him were Jim is hiding. Jim is excited to see Huck and they tell each other what happened.
The next day Miss Sophia runs off with a Sheperedson. Huck goes in the woods and climb a tree to watch the feud. Buck tells Huck that his father and brothers was killed and Huck is disgusted at the violence.Huck climbs out of the tree and find Buck dead in the river so he drags him out and covers him up. He goes to find Jim and they leave and are now back on the river.
Ch.19- As Huck and Jim travel down the river they see to men being chases by dogs, Huck helps them and the two men explain who they are. One older man and one young man. The young man tells Huck he is a Duke and the old man tells them he is a king. They both demand to be treated like royalty, and Huck doesn't have any problem with this. Soon Huck realizes that the two men are actually fakes but decides not to tell Jim and thinks its best to let people like this have there way.
Ch.20- The king and Duke wonder why Huck is traveling with a black guy, Huck makes up a story about his life. A storm starts and the King and Duke take Jim and Huck bed, while they watch the raft outside. The Duke comes up with a plan to make some money. They are going to put on a play "Romeo and Juliet". They also come up with a plan so *they can travel during the day, by making a wanted sign for Jim. As they go into town a slave tells them they went to meet in the woods. As they go to see the people , a man is preaching and yelling. The gets on stage and says he is a used to be pirate and collected money from them 87.75. and a jug of whiskey. They meet back up with Huck. The king and Duke gets drunk and Jim try to get him to speak french.
Ch.21- The king a Duke practice the play and Duke try to teach the King soliloquy. T*hey get to the town where they are going to do the play. The circus is in town so they take advantage and the Duke put up show bills for admission. The town is pretty dirty. A drunk man comes in town (Boggs) and is looking for Colonel Sherburn. Sherburn tells him to leave but he doesn't and Sherburn shoots him twice. They take Boggs to a drugstore and the hole town watches him die and decide to try and lynch Sherburn.
Ch.22- A mob goes to Sherburn house threatening to lynch him but he talks to them about how there not going to do anything. Huck goes to the circus and watch the people play around but feels sorry for a man who try and fails. *The man then gets up and reveals to the audience he is actually a well dresses man. The Duke decides to put on another play instead.
Ch.23- The king and Duke put on the show and everybody loves it but people think the show is to short and gets mad. The men tells the audience to brink the rest of the family for the next two nights but only to be cheated. For the next two night people come but on the third night people are going to throw stuff at them if they perform the play.Huck,Duke, and the king sneak back to the raft and leave, in total they made 465 dollars. Jim and Huck talk about kings and
Jim begins to think that they are fakes but Hucks reassures him there not. As going down the river Jim tells Huck about his daughter he used to mistreat but he found out she was deaf and felt guilty about what he did.
Ch.24- The Duke and king want to preform the same play in other towns but are not sure. Jim asks how he can contribute, so the Duke dresses him up as a sick Arab. They buy new cloths and dress nicely. A man tells them about Peter Wilkes , so the men claim to be him and related to him. They also hear of a will that had divided the money up to his three nieces.Which is 3000-4000 in land and money.
